Raisen Fort



Forts provide a bucketful of information about the living, culture and many other things of a particular time. Bhopal also has some forts as Bhopal is so vast and rich in its history. Raisen fort is one of the major forts present in Bhopal, this fort is in raisen district and about 50 km away from the main Bhopal city. The fort is constructed on a hilltop for the safety reasons, as it became difficult for the attacker in that position. There are many stories which can be heard from the people of Raisen. This fort majorly belongs to the great ruler Sher Shah Suri. The most famous thing about this fort is during the war when the attacker is Sher Shah Suri he cast the metal of coins to make cannons which helped him to take over this fort. Sher Shah Suri cheated in that war and with the help of that cheating only he conquered that fort. The famous story was that when the war started and the defender of this fort knew that they were about to lose, so the king smashed off his queen's neck from his sword, not in any rivalry but to save the pride of his queen and to save her from the hands of Sher Shah Suri. This story is so famous and can be heard in this fort only. Many rooms and other places in that fort is now not in a better condition and ruined. Many parts can be found but not in a good condition which tells the harsh history of this fort. But major parts can be found which contains heavy carvings of many writings and statues which makes it unique and royal in itself. It contains a very huge gate which is around 30 feet tall and wide too. The visitors can move on the hilltop with small rickshaws or by foot. The scenery from the top of the fort is just unexplained as the visitors can view whole raisen city from the top. The whole fort is covered with tall walls which are constructed from the rocks and stones. There are in total of nine gateways provided to get inside the fort and there are thirteen Burj which can be found inside the fort. This fort is constructed in the eleventh century and this fort has seen fourteen wars. It spread its boundaries in about ten square kilometers. Many visitors visit here to witness the water harvesting system at that time which makes it unique as at the time of the eleventh century it is too hard to find a fort which contains water harvesting system and eco sounding which is so hi-tech in that era, echo sounding is so famous among the visitors as on whispering in one room the clear-cut sound can listen by another person who is around twenty feet away. It contains many sectors like Hawa Mahal, Rani Mahal, Hamam, etc. There is the temple of Lord Shiva which only opens once in a whole year. Many foreigners used to visit here frequently. This place is much famous among many historians, photographers, and archaeologists. One should totally hit a visit here to understand and explain the rich diversity, culture, and customs.
