Many people thought that Bhopal doesn't have its feet strong in archeology, but the thing is Bhopal has some prehistoric sites which are rich in history associated with traces of early human life, like how they used to communicate with each other, how they used to trap there pray for food, how they earn their livelihood or how they used to live with each other. Community plays a major role in living, Bhimbetka is a place near Bhopal which is rich in prehistoric sculptures, paintings, and other drawings which explains the early life of humans. It is a world heritage site declared by UNESCO. Bhimbetka consists of 7 hills in total which has about 750 rock shelters spread in an area of about 10 km. Some of the shelters are 1,00,000 years old. Cave paintings are so much popular among the historians who want to know about early life as it explains well with better pictures available on the walls of their shelters. All of the shreds of evidence is related to stone age when humans look alike chimpanzees. Many hunting drawings have been made in that stone age with the help of natural colors, as they take green from plants, red from animal blood, skin color from skins of different animals, and another naturally occurring colors from nature, and made the best they can. They have a special ability that they paint those paintings which they able to observe in front of them and analyze that scenario, like pictures of hunting a cow or buffalo from spear made by attaching a sharp stone at the end of a bamboo stick or long wooden piece. and the most special thing about Bhimbetka is that their shelters, in that era caves have been operated as a shelter. Artificial statues have been placed there by the organization who look after this beautiful place Bhimbetka so that the visitors can easily understand the living of those era peoples. Statues are so natural that they look alike real for some moments. When the weather is pleasant and cool, those surroundings give the visitors a better experience. and if the weather is cloudy or raining then it feels like heaven for those who love history or want to know more about how a primitive life looks and earn their living. The best months to visit are December, January, or July. The transport facility is well connected and feasible too. That place is surely made for nature-loving photographers and documentaries directors as well. Entry fees is minimal and totally less than what you are going to see. That place is a must visit place for every age group people, as one who visits there will surely gonna learn something from that pretty heaven Bhimbetka.

Some of the rock shelters were inhabited by Homo erectus more than 1,00,000 years ago.
The word Bhimbetka is said to be derive from Bhimbaithka (भीमबैठका), meaning "sitting place of Bhima".
